Statement on ethical and professional standards

"A journalist strives to ensure that information disseminated is honestly conveyed, accurate and fair" - NUJ Code of Conduct.

Andrew Bibby writes:

I am a member of the National Union of Journalists, and as such commit to meeting the professional and ethical standards in the NUJ's Code of Conduct.

I believe it is important that journalists are accountable to their readers and, more generally, to the communities they serve. If you are unhappy with my work, feel that I have misrepresented you, or believe that I may have made an error, please in the first instance contact me to tell me why. You also, of course, have the right to contact the editor of the publication where my work has appeared.

Journalists have to deal with publicists' attempts (of differing degrees of subtlety) to influence what we write. I do not accept press trips where hospitality is offered, except on very rare occasions where I consider that the visits proposed are of direct relevance to my work. I have decided to voluntarily disclose such occasions here. I also voluntarily declare other interests and positions held.
